United Glasgow 1 - Drumbank Thistle 11
United Glasgow FC's Men's Development team suffered a bruising defeat at the hands of Drumbank Thistle in the Glasgow Community and Co-operative League's Football v Homophobia Cup on Sunday.
United struggled with the wind and with Drumbank's set plays and despite holding out for the first 20 minutes, once the floodgates opened they didn't close again...
With a team that has changed almost every week, our development team have struggled to defend set pieces or stick to a shape and system which has resulted in some fairly disjointed performances, despite good spells of passing and moving and moments of individual brilliance!
Despite the scoreline and the bitterly cold and windy weather, the United Glasgow touchline did enjoy some highlights with some spectacular saves from Steph and Humed (who played a half each in goals), an overhead kick from Samil (at right back...) and a hilarious handball by debutant Abdullah. Filimon Y spotted the goalkeeper off his line and his audacious 40 yard effort went close and brought cheers from the United faithful, but the biggest cheer of the day was for a wonder goal from another debutant, Anwar!
Into the consolation cup and back to league business it is as the development team still look for their first point of the season!
The development team's next game is against Clutha Trust FC at Springburn Park on Sunday 31st January, followed by an away trip to, and early start at, Odd Woodland on Sunday 7th February.
