It’s the first weekend in February and for the first time in 2016, all four United Glasgow Football Club teams are in action this weekend!
In the West of Scotland Amateur Football League, UGFC Men’s Saturday Team play at home to Inchinnan Valley. Having also met in the League Cup group stages this season, and twice in the league already since, United are looking to notch up their third victory over Inchinnan in their fifth meeting this season and secure their first competitive win since November. The game will kick off at 2pm at Glasgow Green Football Centre.
On Sunday, UGFC Men’s Development Team will also play at Glasgow Green Football Centre as they take on GCCL high-flyers Odd Woodland in a painfully early kick off! With the Development Team never having played Woodland and the team changing significantly over the past few months, it is difficult to predict how the game will go so all we can do is hope everyone wakes up on time for this 10am kick off at Glasgow Green!
At a slightly more reasonable hour, the UGFC Men’s Sunday Team take on Saltire Thistle in a real six-pointer in the lower reaches of the GCCL. Level on points (albeit with Saltire having a game in hand), both teams will be desperate to win to pull themselves away from the bottom of the table. UGFC will be looking to halt a losing streak but Saltire have recently picked up wins against Glasgow Corinthians and Glasgow St Pauli so this will be no mean feat. The game will be played at Springburn Park Synthetic Pitch at 12pm.
And at the same time, down at Palace of Art, the UGFC Women’s Team will play a bounce game to prepare for pre-season to start in earnest the following week. With new coaches, new players and new tactics, the team are raring to go for the 2016 season and this will be their first taste of action since November 2015.
