UGFC Men's Development 0-10 Odd Woodland
United Men’s Development Team’s never-ending search for their first points of the season took them to Glasgow Green to play against an in-form Odd Woodland side currently flying high in the upper echelons of the GCCL. In high winds and torrential rain United battled hard but were eventually blown away in the end…almost literally!
United struggled to get a foothold in the game from the first whistle. Nobody’s quite sure why Odd Woodland were awarded a penalty in the first 5mins but Steph was quickest to smother the rebound after the spot kick cannoned off the post so it didn’t really matter. Unfortunately he was beaten just minutes later as any hopes of a shock result faded early on.
An audacious effort from Alan on the half way line was the closest United came to breaching the Woodland goal in the first half, and as such we’ll absolutely call it a “chance” which the keeper had to “save”!
Steph was whisked off at half time to do more goalkeeping elsewhere and Humed replaced him between the sticks for the second period. Another handful of goals were conceded in the second half which, as the referee himself remarked after full time, probably should have been abandoned such were the treacherous conditions. The second half was very fragmented as the ball spent more time out of play than it did in. United took more centres than corners but Allan’s deflected freekick needed clawed off the line by the Woodland goalkeeper as they almost registered a late consolation.
Often beaten, never defeated, United’s support greeted every pass with “Ole” in the closing minutes but everybody was delighted to get inside as soon as the full time whistle sounded!
