United Glasgow Football Club is pleased to have been awarded the "Best Community Football Project" prize for the West Region through the SFA's Grassroots Awards programme. The award recognises a community based project which has succeeded in encouraging football for all; including creating opportunities for people from diverse underrepresented backgrounds, disadvantaged areas and has demonstrated strong growth in participation.
The award was presented at Firhill Stadium in advance of the Betfred Cup match between Partick Thistle and Stranraer on Saturday 29th July 2017. United Glasgow FC were represented by Alan White, Ibrahim Alrefai, Cathy Wood, Ari Silvera and Abdulmajet Nour.
Corrie Campbell, Club Development Manager for the SFA West Region, said; "This reward is a small recognition of the hard work and effort the club puts in to help others enjoy the game that we all love. On a personal note, I would like to thank United Glasgow for everything you all do for so many others, without volunteers like yourself football just wouldn't be the same in the Region."
Alan said; "None of the volunteers who keep our club going do so to win awards or for recognition but, nonetheless, it is always encouraging to win an award such as this to reinforce the continued value of what we do. We'll continue to run teams, football sessions and education events while the need exists and to move closer to our overall goal - a United Glasgow."
